Learning the language of Lemurs
Have you ever wished you could understand what animals were saying?
Well, our expert primate team have been building a special dictionary to do just that!
Bringing together global research and their own on-the-ground zoo keeping expertise, they have cracked the code on what lemurs are communicating.
Using this tool, known as an ethogram, they can now translate everything from yawning to ear twitching, tail flicking and more!
Hear what lemurs have to say
We have two lovely lemur species at Perth Zoo, our Black-and-white Ruffed Lemurs and our Ring-tailed Lemurs.
Our lemurs are provided with a sanctuary free from predators and with plenty of resources to share, but only 10% of wild lemur habitat still exists for their cousins in Madagascar.
That’s why we support our conservation partner Madagascar Fauna and Flora Group (MFG) to undertake vital work within the Betampona Natural Reserve and Parc Ivoloina on Madagascar.
We have supported MFG and their work in the protection of habitat, forest restoration and species conservation since 2016.
You don’t have to be a zoologist, or travel to Madagascar to help save lemurs.
